Mini-Vegas headed for South Surrey

Gateway Casinos has given the City of Surrey a proposal in which a $100 million resort style gambling venue can be built near the Great Canadian Casino’s River Rock venue in Richmond and the Boulevard Casino in Coquitlam.

This has created quite a stir as the new casino will be competition for these already established casinos in the area. The new casino resort will be “the biggest entertainment venues outside Vancouver, providing much-needed space for conventions, concerts, comedy shows and other large events for residents of Surrey and the Fraser Valley. The theatre will have at least 800 seats.”

There seems to be quite a hype about the idea “We’re very excited,” Gabara said. “It’s going to be a fully serviced facility with amenities that Surrey just doesn’t have right now … the entire facility just encompasses amenities people are going outside the province and the country to get.”

Lets not get our hopes up too soon though, because the proposal still needs to go to public hearing.

The revenue generated from such a structure would be around $6 million a year for the Surrey City Hall.
