Dragonplay, a massive free-to-play casino games developer, has raised $14 million (C$13.8mil) through Accel Partners.
Dragonplay already has a strong Android base, which gives it the edge against competitors who began in iOS, reports PocketGamer. Dragonplay’s new investors, Accel Partners, have an eye for quality, having raised investments in the wildly succesful brands Rovio and Playfish among others.
Adam Valkin, the firm’s lead investor, said he was pleased with the investment as Dragonplay’s casino games have “high engagement and monetisation rates.”
Dragonplay’s most successful title Live Hold’em Poker has a huge 12 million installs and 2 million monthly active users through Facebook and Android. The new $14 million has already been put to good use, with iOS developments already in motion, it shouldn’t be long before Dragonplay’s many games will be available for Apple devices. They are also working on expanding its library with part of the raised money going towards acquisitions of new titles.
With a staff of only 23, Dragonplay’s Tel-Aviv offices will be expanding as they take on more staff to handle all that cash. Just goes to show that good games can be big business.
