Atlantic City native Don Johnson took the Tropicana Casino for $6 million in a single night, reports The Atlantic.
Over the past year, Johnson has gone from anonymity to one of the most respected (by fellow players) and feared (by casino bosses) Blackjack players in the world. His 12-hour winning streak at Tropicana destroyed the casino’s monthly revenues, as he was winning a Blackjack hand every minute on average.
It wasn’t just a lucky break, either. Johnson has taken in $5 million at the Borgata Casino, and $4 million at Caesar’s – prompting Caesar’s to ban him for life.
Johnson grew up on the racing track and was a jockey in his youth, and growing up in the gaming industry has given him a big lead on the house. He’s a high roller, known as a ‘whale’, whom casinos treat like royalty in return for their huge bets. During his big night at the Tropicana, Johnson had been betting $100,000 a hand. Unfortunately for the casinos, Johnson is a highly intelligent player with a head for numbers and a flawless strategy.
Though his lifestyle has stayed much the same since the big wins – ironically he’s a big better but not a big spender – Johnson has enjoyed private jet flights and rubbed shoulders with celebrities as part and parcel of being the world’s most famous Blackjack player.
